Clair Ballantyne

Clair lives overlooking the South Downs and her work is highly influenced by the natural world. She is an intuitive painter who enjoys exploring the interplay of colour, movement and texture and the way that these elements combine to evoke the memory of a time or place for the onlooker – a moment of connection. Her work is informed by the sense of flux in the natural environment and by the impossibility of permanence in a world subject to change. She rarely paints with an endgame in mind and instead draws on memories and emotions, allowing each piece to evolve in its own way as she applies the layers of paint.

Clair has exhibited in galleries in Brighton and as part of the Artists Open House Festival in Brighton and Lewes. She runs small Art groups from her West Sussex studio.
