From as early as I can remember I have always been creative and felt able to express myself through colour and line. Art was my favourite subject at school and this led me to take a degree in Fine Art, specialising in textiles and print-making. I completed my PGCE shortly after this and I taught in adult education for a while whilst producing work for gallery exhibitions, taking part in Art Fairs and selling and loaning my work to a company that placed artwork in children’s hospital wards.
Fast forward some years and when our children were little, we made the decision to live abroad for a few years. Raising our family in a new part of the world left little space for creative opportunities, so I put aside my paint brushes, but always knew that when the time was right, I would once again paint.
I have very recently returned to my art practice and I am currently inspired by the sculptural shapes, graceful outlines and the endless colour palette possibilities of flowers. I work mainly in acrylic paint and inks as they allow me the spontaneity and freedom to express how I feel in that moment.
I run workshops on gelli printing as this process is such a wonderful way in which to produce prints without a press. It’s meditative and creates an opportunity to just play and is a reminder for me to be present and still in the moment.
My studio is one of the many happy places I like to be where I can explore and further push forward my ideas that lead me to finding the joy.
