My passion for painting has always been in the process. I prepare the canvas with layers of collage, plaster and paint to create a textured surface to work on. The painting emerges from the background with coatings of colour that can be added to and scraped away to reveal the layers underneath.
The process and often the inspiration for a painting comes from the personal memories they evoke and I’m interested in the symbolism we attach to their presence for example in my most recent ‘Dickie Bird’ series: sign of freedom, life, peace, love, hope!
I predominantly use acrylic paint as I like to work fast, I’m a little impatient and can’t wait to start the next layer of the painting.
