Time Squares is the work of Bob Bennett, bringing Art Deco design to clocks and mirrors.
My interest in Art Deco goes all the way back to 1999 when my family spent a week in New York. Surrounded by some of the most iconic style statements of the last century I wanted to bring some of it, somehow, into my own home. A chance find in a local bookshop provided the spark – a large wall-mounted clock consisting of a single piece of mirror, decorated with glass paints and leadwork in the unmistakable style of Art Deco. The instructions were there, the materials were gathered (mainly courtesy of Annetts art shop, sorely missed!) and I made a start. Although hardly my greatest work it was good enough to hang in our half-landing and received an encouraging number of compliments.
Fast forward almost twenty years to my (early) retirement and I realised my free time should be spent developing more ambitious clock designs. Wall clocks of various sizes, colours and textural effects were followed by a range of mantel clocks and then mirrors.
Most of my work is sold as commissions and I actively encourage the client to suggest their own thoughts and ideas on designs, colours and effects as this has often expanded my own horizons on what is possible. I take a lot of pleasure in providing a unique, bespoke solution to suit the available wall space or colour match the client’s décor with my work.
