I’m a maker who has retired after a lifetime of teaching

Clay was always my first love. The feel of it, the freedom it gives as it’s such a pliable and forgiving medium. The amazing variety of forms you can achieve in a short or extended period of time. I’ve been so happy to discover that in the 30 odd years since I left the medium of clay Technology has led to great advances in glazes and firing techniques. So I’m now able to have my own workshop in my garage with a portable wheel and small kiln. I can apply beautiful colours as slip, underglaze or glaze that can be fired using the energy created by our solar panels.
My work is experimental, I’m always on a journey and will probably never arrive but it’s always fun.
Finally I am a firm believer that we should “Have nothing in our houses that we do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful”. So I aim to make things that are both useful and beautiful.
